You may have noticed the hashtag #IntermissionIsOver trending recently in social media, and caught your heart beating a little faster when seeing the source—none other than the legendary Cirque du Soleil. Yes, Cirque is back with a bang with the resumption of one of the most lavish, colorful and iconic stage shows to grace a Sin City stage.
The rumors are true: The Beatles LOVE has returned to the Mirage Hotel and Casino. This iconic production upped the game for Vegas stagecraft upon its opening in June 2006. Featuring a vivid re-imagining of the Fab Four’s legendary history and songbook, the show has been a proven draw throughout its run. Its state-of-the-art sets, featuring 32 digital projectors, summon a cavalcade of imagery inspired by the band’s lyrics and lore. Each seat in the theater, meanwhile, features three dedicated speakers, including one in its headrest, guaranteeing peerless sound everywhere in the venue.
Best of all, given that it was fully signed off on by the Beatles’ company Apple Core Ltd., LOVE features the actual music of the Fab Four, reconfigured to great effect by Giles Martin, son of the Beatles legendary producer Sir George Martin and current de facto producer of the Beatles’ legacy. Even if you own the soundtrack, there is nothing like hearing the full show of 27 songs—which in themselves sample over 200 Fab tunes.
Bedecked in extravagant clothing inspired by Fab legend, LOVE’s cast of 70 performers bring Fab Four history and music to life across a 360-degree stage, whether swinging from a trapeze, skating across the stage, or tightrope walking. Such a sophisticated circus seemed an improbable match to celebrate the band’s history, but the show’s spectacle turned skeptics into believers. LOVE has performed to over 10 million attendees.
The Cirque’s #IntermissionIsOver campaign is not limited to the Beatles, as it has also restarted its Michael Jackson ONE mega-tribute at the Mandalay Bay earlier in the month. LOVE has become a must-see not just for Beatles’ fans, but for everyone.
Dream no more of Sin City’s return; it’s here.
