Las Vegas is expecting one of the busiest Super Bowl weekends in many years. Travel and tourism in Sin City reached new heights in 2018 and 2019 is projected to bring even more visitors to the Las Vegas Strip for both leisure and business, but as a sports town, Las Vegas shows the most promise for future growth. Las Vegas Stadium is set to open in 2020 as the new home to the Las Vegas Raiders along with many other blockbuster sports events. Las Vegas will host the 2020 NFL Draft along with an actual Super Bowl within the first few years after the stadium opens. There is no doubt that the attractiveness of Las Vegas as a Super Bowl destination, with or without the actual game being played here, will continue to surge in the years ahead. The Las Vegas Strip has so many premium sports viewing locations and Big Game parties, not to mention the advancement of sports betting into mobile apps with a multitude of entertaining prop bets that allow sports fans to bet from any location on the Strip, without having to physically be at a sports book and wait in line to get to the window during peak betting times. This is an exciting time to be in Las Vegas for Super Bowl weekend and the only thing that’s left to be determined for the upcoming Super Bowl 53 is which teams will be playing on Super Bowl Sunday.
This coming weekend, on January 20th, 2019, the NFL will deliver a Championship Sunday for the ages with the top two teams from each conference squaring off in two of the most highly anticipated conference championship matchups in recent years. Any combination of the four remaining teams would make for a tremendous Super Bowl matchup with plenty of story lines, but Championship Sunday will be a story in itself as these four heavyweights square off in what could be the absolute best weekend of NFL football of the season thus far.
NFC Championship – 12:05pm PST
Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints
Betting Line: Saints -3
Drew Brees already has one Super Bowl ring and is ready to lead his team to another while the LA Rams have a balanced but explosive attack led by the youngest head coach in modern NFL history, Sean McVay, who always has his team prepared. These two teams have it all and promise to deliver an exciting gridiron matchup to kick off Championship Sunday in a big way.
AFC Championship – 3:40pm PST
New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs
Betting Line: Chiefs -3
Patrick Mahomes is one of the most exciting young players in the league and his Kansas City Chiefs deserve every bit of the success they have achieved this season. On the other side of the field will be two of the NFL’s greatest in Brady and Belicheck, two men who continue to lead their team to major wins while many fans around the nation wait and hope for their demise. It hasn’t happened yet but that’s why they play the games on Sundays!
In years past, Las Vegas has seen a notable increase in hotel rates during the week after the Super Bowl matchup is set, but based on demand already seen this year, there may not be much of a difference. Some of the most popular big game viewing parties are already nearing capacity, with Blondie’s at Planet Hollywood Hotel already being SOLD OUT in mid-January! For those considering a trip to Las Vegas for Super Bowl Weekend, it would be wise to make those plans immediately, but if any further encouragement is needed, all it should take is watching the quality of play on Championship Sunday to understand that whichever two teams make it to the big game this year, it will be a matchup for the history books!
