Break out your lighters, Las Vegas! On Friday, September 9, 80’s-era rockers Def Leppard and Motley Crue bring one of the biggest package tours of the summer to Allegiant Stadium. Appropriately titled “The Stadium Tour,” Def Leppard are joined by a veritable who’s who of 80s hard rock. On one summer bill, both headliners have invited glam-metallers Poison and tough rocker Joan Jett to share the stage in an all-day event.
The 1980s were a golden age for hard rock and heavy metal. No bands better symbolize this era than Def Leppard and the Crue. Leppard were known for their lean, crunchy, pop-metal hits–like “Foolin,” “Photograph,” “Rock of Ages,” and “Pour Some Sugar on Me”–that ruled the charts and helped them fill stadiums around the world.
Two of the albums, 1983’ Pyromania and 1987’s Hysteria were monster blockbusters, with Pyromania becoming one of the few Diamond records in the US, selling over ten million copies. Def Leppard found a whole new audience for their brand of hard rock, leading to the success of like-minded “hair metal” bands later in the decade.
This concert marks the return of the band to Vegas, following its celebrated 2020 residency at Zappo’s Theater at Planet Hollywood. “Def Leppard Hits Vegas: The Sin City Residency” did big business over its twelve nights and demonstrated that the group could work as well in a smaller, more intimate venue as they do on the biggest stages around.
Co-headliners Motley Crue were and remain the original bad boys of rock. Coming out of the legendary early 1980s L.A. club scene, the quartet caught fire with 1983’s Shout at the Devil. Never shy of controversy, the band was in the news for their antics as often as they ruled the charts. Embracing a glam-rock look and sound, the band released classic after class throughout the 1980s, including “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away),” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S), “Dr. Feelgood,” and many more. Weathering trials and tribulations that would doom less-determined bands, the Crue have become rock mainstays, playing to two generations of avid fans.
Both bands will share headlining duties and will play full sets, filled with the hits and not a few deep cuts from across their catalogue. Two years in the making, after originally being scheduled for 2020, “The Stadium Tour” hits Allegiant Stadium on Friday, September 9.
Get there early to catch Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (“I Love Rock and Roll”) and Poison (“Every Rose Has Its Thorn”) featuring original vocalist Brett Michaels. The mini-festival starts at 4pm, and remember that Allegiant Stadium, located adjacent to the famous Las Vegas Strip, is wholly enclosed and climate-controlled.
A rocking time is guaranteed!
